Legislators across the country are proposing internet voting bills — including in Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, and Vermont — which is why we’re sharing two new resources to help explain why it’s a threat to our elections and where it’s already happening:

Internet Voting: A State by State Table: Internet voting means returning a voted ballot over the internet — including via mobile apps, email, fax, or a website portal — and 32 states, Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands already allow some type of internet voting. Our data team tracks internet voting laws by state and we’ve published a table showing the current landscape, including the type of internet voting, the voters permitted to use it, and links to the current laws.
