“As a paramedic and tactical medical instructor, I have seen first hand how STOP THE BLEED® is important in the civilian sector. During one of my EMS calls, we were located 5.4 miles from the scene of a shooting, but was stopped by a train. This in turn caused our response time to be 11min 15sec. During our time delay, two civilians (unknown to each other) responded to the scene and conducted first aid. Upon our arrival, these civilians were not only able to correctly package a wound to the victims right bicep, but properly applied a tourniquet to the victim's right leg. These measures saved the victim's life. When asked where they learned it from, both replied in a STOP THE BLEED® course.”

STOP THE BLEED® is a national campaign to encourage bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. It is a public/private partnership led by the Department of Defense and many other stakeholders, including the Stop the Bleed Coalition.
