Dear Friend,
The tide is turning.
Thanks to supporters like you who have powered our work over the past few decades, more and more Americans are waking up to how the war on drugs has destroyed lives, shattered communities, and deepened racial injustice.
We’re at a turning point in this fight, Friend. That’s why this year, I want to make 4/20 a day of action in our movement—a renewed push to end the drug war, repair its harms, and build an approach that puts people first.
Are you with us?
If so, please make a special gift to DPA before midnight on 4/20. Your contribution will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $42,000, to help galvanize our movement for legalization and transform our drug policies for the better.
Some people think the fight for marijuana legalization has already been won. Far from it.
Despite marijuana being legal in more than 20 states, it is still one of the most common offenses for which people are arrested. In 2021, over 170,000 people were arrested for marijuana possession. And in the same year, 4 out of 5 of those sentenced for federal marijuana charges were Black or Latinx.
