Dear John,

The safety of the UK’s food supply is as important to UK citizens as availability and affordability. We need to be able to trust that regulators prioritise the protection of public and environmental health over commercial interests. Professor Erik Millstone and Professor Tim Lang recently examined public declarations of conflicts of interest provided by actors in the UK food safety decision-making system. The results are concerning. Read their findings in our latest newsletter here.

Also in the latest issue: a first-of-its kind study finds that children exposed to glyphosate are more likely in early adulthood to have a collection of symptoms that increase risk of heart disease, diabetes and stroke; and new research finds that the impact of insecticides on bees may be more complicated that previously thought.

In addition, ShareAction calls on investors to engage with pesticide companies in order to urgently address the industry’s contribution to biodiversity loss and a new paper from PAN UK debunks the myth that paraquat is needed for agricultural productivity and security.

PAN Europe have published a new version of the guide that outlines the wide range of non-chemical alternatives to glyphosate that are available.

And last, but not least, Be Slavery Free have published a Chocolate Scorecard. Find out if your favourite chocolate retailer received a ‘Good Egg Award’.
