Women have been waiting for 100 years for the federal Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to provide full and equal protection under the U.S. Constitution.

In 1923, the Equal Rights Amendment was first introduced in Congress to fulfill the promise of equal rights for all. It took until 1972 for lawmakers to send the measure to states for ratification. In 2020, Virginia became the 38th state to approve the ERA, finally crossing the ratification threshold.

Despite this, Congress imposed an arbitrary deadline to block the ERA from taking effect. That means delays to closing the gender pay gap, strengthening access to abortion care, combating violence against women, advancing racial justice, LGBTQIA+ civil rights, and more.

Enough is enough.
