Hey team –
Early on in February, a Norfolk Southern train derailed outside of East Palestine, Ohio, causing toxic chemicals to leach into the air and pollute nearby streams.
Because the cargo on the train wasn’t considered “high-hazardous material," Norfolk Southern wasn’t required to notify the state of the train’s contents. Now, the people of East Palestine and surrounding communities will face the consequences far into the future.
This was entirely preventable. And we need to be sure that Norfolk Southern takes full responsibility for the health and environmental impacts this derailment will cause over the long-term.
