Hi John -- It’s very nice to meet you.

I just want to make something clear right away: I’m NOT asking you to make a contribution to my campaign. I want to earn your trust and support first. Please, just let me tell you a little bit about myself and my run for Congress in this extremely competitive district.

When I first ran for Congress in 2018, no one thought we had a shot.

We were facing an entrenched incumbent politician, who took campaign checks from corporate PACs and catered his votes to the special interest donors that were backing him. Experts said that this district was solidly locked in his favor.

But I couldn’t sit by and do nothing -- that would have gone against every instinct in my body.

After the tragedy on 9/11, I dropped out of college to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. I served my country in combat, because something had to be done.

A few years after I returned home from service overseas, I ran for a seat in the Maine State Legislature because I saw how working families were struggling, and know something had to be done.

And in 2017, I announced my campaign for Congress in this swing district because I saw the disgusting corruption and dysfunction coming out of Washington, and I knew that something had to be done.

We won by an extremely narrow margin -- the final results weren’t certified until nearly a month after the 2018 election.

But we won, despite all the odds and all the pundits writing us off. How did we do it? The answer is: folks like you.

I can’t count the number of “political experts” who said that my pledge to reject ANY money from corporate PACs was insane. They thought that it would be impossible to compete without the backing of elite special interests and corporations. But I knew we could do it. And truthfully: I’ve never been more proud to prove someone wrong in my life, John.

We ran a campaign funded entirely by grassroots contributions -- not one penny from corporate PACs -- and won. And I’m committed to running for my first re-election the very same way now, entirely funded by people like you.

We’ve been making so much progress in Congress for Maine’s working families. I cast my vote to the biggest anti-corruption package to come to Congress in decades.
