Action Alert: Join us for a “Repeal the Death Tax” Zoom meeting tomorrow and support SCA 4
Thank you for your phone calls and advocacy to help advance Senate Constitutional Amendment 4 (SCA 4). It’s set for a hearing in the Senate Governance and Finance Committee on Wednesday, April 19.
You’re invited to a one-hour Zoom meeting tomorrow, April 12, at 2:00 p.m., where the HJTA team will be happy to answer your questions and give you the latest updates. The link is below.
SCA 4 will protect California families by reversing the “death tax” that was enacted by Proposition 19. It will restore the constitutional right of parents and children to transfer property to each other, a home of any value and up to $1 million of assessed value of other property, without any change to the tax bill.
This important measure will once again allow every California family to begin to build generational wealth after a lifetime of work and decades of mortgage payments. Children will not be forced to sell small family properties due to a wildly unaffordable new tax bill.
You can help by sending a letter to the Governance and Finance Committee no later than Thursday, April 13, to express your support for SCA 4. Letters must be sent electronically. Here’s the website:
https://calegislation.lc.ca.gov/Advocates/
To send a letter, first register a new account as an individual, or if you represent an official organization you can register as a representative of that organization. Then submit your comments on SCA 4 either as text or as an uploaded copy of a letter. (Letters are a public record, so you may want to leave your home address off the uploaded copy.)
You can simply write, “I support SCA 4 to protect California families from being taxed out of the property their parents worked so hard to acquire,” or tell your own story to the lawmakers, it’s up to you.
You can also call the offices of the committee members to express your support for SCA 4 and urge them to vote yes:

P.S. SCA 4 could be on the ballot as early as March 5, 2024, if we make enough phone calls to persuade two-thirds of the Legislature to vote yes. It’s not impossible — in 1986, the nearly identical measure that became Proposition 58 passed the Legislature unanimously. So please call your representatives and urge them to co-author SCA 4 to protect California families! Look up their names and contact information at findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov
