Mifepristone has been a legal, FDA-approved abortion pill on the market
for nearly 23 years. Studies have shown that it is as safe, or safer, than
common drugs like penicillin or Viagra.^1

But on Friday, a right-wing, GOP-appointed judge in Texas ruled that the
drug was improperly approved over two decades ago, and must now be removed
from the market. The Biden Administration filed an appeal yesterday, and
indicated they may ask the Supreme Court to review the case.

If the ruling is upheld, we will have taken a significant step toward a
national abortion ban. Once medical abortion is banned, we are in
extremely dangerous territory.

Access Coalition, Fund Texas Choice, Feminist Women's Health Center, and
Mississippi Reproductive Freedom Fund – local abortion funds working to
keep abortion safe and accessible. 100% of your donation will be split
between these groups.

This ruling is different from other conservative decisions because this is
not a case where a judge is making calls on what is within the bounds of
the law or not: this is like a judge outlawing Claritin or aspirin just
because they felt like it.

The contents of this judge’s decision is pure, shocking conjecture. There
is no medical evidence, or a medical study, to support it. This ruling is
an abuse of power and an extraordinary example of judicial overreach.

What we are seeing is a power grab over our courts, in which the laws
passed by Congress and the Executive Branch are now going to require
unanimous consent from 650 district court judges, many of whom were
appointed by a right-wing, Republican party whose goal was to pack the
courts with partisan judges.

But today we can stand together to support local, on-the-ground abortion
funds that help arrange and pay for abortion care for patients who need
it.

to travel hours, sometimes crossing state lines, just to access health
