Last week a federal judge released his decision in Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA, which effectively reversed the Food and Drug Administration's approval of mifepristone, also known as the abortion pill, which has been prescribed by doctors and used safely by women for more than two decades.

This decision should remind us just how important it is to elect leaders who will safeguard a woman’s right to make private decisions about her body. Here in Maine, we’re fortunate that our laws protect access to abortions. But this ruling could undo that, overstepping the will of Mainers and creating serious and harmful consequences for millions of women across the country.

I remain committed to working with my colleagues to find a legislative path forward to protect a woman’s right to make her own healthcare decisions, and to codify the principles of freedom and privacy that should be afforded to all Americans.
