Featured Funding OpportunitiesU.S Economic Development Administration’s STEM Talent ChallengeThe STEM Talent Challenge aims to build STEM talent training systems to strengthen regional innovation economies. Grants will be awarded to organizations that are creating and implementing STEM talent development strategies that complement their region’s innovation economy.Projects should aim to identify opportunities in high-growth potential sectors, and to expand and empower the innovation economy workforce, including by:Engaging regional entrepreneurs, innovators, and the organizations that support them to assess and forecast current and future talent needs and to develop collaborative solutions with work-based programs.Building highly skilled talent and connecting it to highly technical opportunities that foster professional development and provide continuing advanced skills training to develop the technical and scientific workforce that regional innovation initiatives need.Strengthening collaboration among entrepreneurs, industry leaders and employers, educational organizations, established corporations, economic and/or workforce development organizations, and the public sector to enable better access to skilled workers and to develop demand-driven workforce pipelines for the innovation economy.Placing new employees into immediate job openings with regional employers in need of STEM talent.The application deadline is 11:59 P.M. Apply Here!FY23 Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant ProgramThe purpose of SS4A grants is to improve roadway safety by significantly reducing or eliminating roadway fatalities and serious injuries through safety action plan development and implementation focused on all users, including pedestrians, bicyclists, public transportation users, motorists, and commercial vehicle operators. The program provides funding to develop the tools to help strengthen a community’s approach to roadway safety and save lives and is designed to meet the needs of communities that differ dramatically in size, location, and experience administering federal funding.The deadline for applications is 5:00 p.m. (EDT) Monday, July 10, 2023. Late applications will not be accepted. There have been substantive changes made to the FY23 application compared to FY22. Northern Border Regional Commission (NBRC) 2023 Catalyst ProgramEstablished in 2008, the NBRC is a partnership between the federal government and the states of Maine, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont. The mission of the NBRC is to fund economic development and infrastructure projects throughout designated counties in its four-state service area. In NY20, this means projects in Schenectady, Rensselaer, and Saratoga Counties. The Catalyst Program brings multiple investment priorities together to stimulate growth and inspire partnerships for rural economic vitality in the northern border region. These projects will be partially funded through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).If you are interested in applying, Letters of Interest (Required) are due April 21, 2023, by 5:00 p.m.Economic Development Administration Public Works and Economic Adjustment Assistance ProgramsThe EDA provides grants to meet the full range of communities’ and regions’ economic development needs from planning and technical assistance to construction of infrastructure.Through the Public Works program, EDA provides investments to help distressed communities build, design, or engineer critical infrastructure and facilities that will help implement regional development strategies and advance economic development goals to promote regional prosperity.Through the EAA program, EDA provides investments that support a wide range of construction and non-construction activities in regions experiencing adverse economic changes.EDA intends to review applications expeditiously upon receipt of the complete application. Featured Grant AwardTonko Secures $21 Million for Castleton-on-Hudson Bridge RestorationYesterday, I announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has awarded $21 million to the New York State Thruway Authority (NYSTA) to rehabilitate and strengthen the Castleton-on-Hudson Bridge. I sent a letter to Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg in support of NYSTA’s request for this investment, which will help to improve the safety and reliability of this critical transportation infrastructure and support economic growth in our Capital Region.This funding, made possible by the unprecedented investments in our Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, will help ensure that the bridge remains safe and reliable for years to come, supporting the movement of goods and people in the Capital Region and beyond. I’m proud of my work to secure this critical funding, and I’ll keep pushing for investments that connect our communities and maintain our region’s status as a thriving hub of economic activity. Small Business ResourcesEmpire State Development Office of Strategic Workforce Development GrantsLast Year, Governor Hochul announced a new investment of $350 million for workforce development and the creation of the Office of Strategic Workforce Development (OSWD) within Empire State Development (ESD), a new division charged with better aligning workforce development efforts with the needs and priorities of today's employers.Last Fall, Governor Hochul announced the launch of $150 million in workforce development grant programs, administered by OSWD. Round 4 of the OSWD grant programs is open. Updated guidelines and materials can be found HERE. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis and awards will be announced every three months. The deadline for Q2 of 2023 is Friday, June 30, 2023, 11:59 PM.New York Small Business Development Center (NYSBDC)The NYSBDC provides small business owners and entrepreneurs in New York with the highest quality, confidential business counseling, training, and business research at no cost.The Albany Small Business Development Center serves small businesses in the Capital Region.
