Saturday, April 29: Join our Latin America & Caribbean Policy Forum in Washington DC, at American University!

Dear John,

When I graduated from high school at age 17, my fascination with Mayan culture led me to take a summer course at the San Carlos University in Guatemala City. I certainly learned about Mayan culture that summer, but I learned even more about an issue I knew nothing about—my own government’s history of overthrowing governments in Latin America! I had never heard of the coup against President Jacobo Arbenz or the evil-doings of U.S. Secretary of State John Foster Dulles or the rapaciousness of the United Fruit Company. My fascination broadened from the beauty of Mayan culture to the brutality of the U.S. politics to the immense depth of Latin American resistance.

Join us at the Latin America and the Caribbean Policy Forum to learn how governments and people in the Americas are not only rejecting the 200-year-old Monroe Doctrine, where the U.S. claims domination over the entire continent, but also how resistance movements are birthing new governments that demand respect and non-interference from their neighbor to the north.

RSVP now to join us at the Latin America and the Caribbean Policy on Saturday, April 29 where we will bring together some of the key issues and players in this transformation. We’ll look at movements that are opposing sanctions and unilateral intervention, countering militarism with cooperation, building independent regional institutions, addressing the climate crisis and helping migrants. We’ll hear from brilliant speakers such as Democracy Now’s Juan Gonzalez, Belly of the Beast’s award-winning Cuban journalist Liz Oliva Fernández, Mexican renowned scholar of Critical Theory and the Philosophy of Liberation Jorge Zuñiga, and Nick Estes, founder of the indigenous resistance group Red Nation. We’ll also have a cultural celebration in the evening and an advocacy day in Congress the day before.  Sign up now for any or all of these events now!

I can sincerely say that this is an opportunity you don’t want to miss. It will deepen your knowledge, broaden your vision and recharge your batteries. So register now, for free, while there’s still space.

❤️ I look forward to seeing you pronto.

Un abrazo,
Medea on behalf of the Latin America team Michelle, Samantha, Teri and Ysa
