A chance to tell us your thoughts on emerald ash borer rules!

How does emerald ash borer impact you? Do you have an opinion on the quarantine rules or emergency orders? Does your business move ash wood or firewood? We want to hear from you- join us in April for an information gathering session as we prepare to change the quarantine rules. We meet again in May to give a municipal update and we hope to see you there.

April Emerald Ash Borer Listening Sessions

The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry is holding three listening sessions in April to gather input on emerald ash borer [ [link removed] ] regulations in Maine. The sessions will be hybrid, allowing for in-person and online participation. Meetings will be held in Augusta on April 12, Houlton on April 13, and Old Town on April 20. May Emerald Ash Borer Municipal Update

The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry is also hosting a virtual update meeting on emerald ash borer for cities and towns on Monday, May 1, at 10:00 AM [ [link removed] ]. Topics will include remote sensing of ash, Portland's response to EAB, and updates about pesticides and quarantines.

Wildfire Awareness Week "Kickoff" event - Augusta

*Date:* April 18, 2023

*Time:* 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

*Location:* Maine State Library, 242 State Street, Augusta 

This is the Kick-off event to announce Wildfire Awareness Week across Maine. Ten or more Smokey Bear paintings will be displayed from the historical Wendelin Collection. A Maine Forest Ranger will also read the story of Smokey Bear to children before Smokey Bear makes an appearance. Other children's activities associated with the Maines Forests and the Maine State Museum are also planned.

BMPs to Protect Water Quality on Haul Roads and Skid Trails Workshop - Waltham

*Date:* May 18, 2023

*Time:* 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM

*Location:* Elliot Jordan and Son, 382 Cave Hill Rd., Waltham 

This workshop is designed for *loggers* and *foresters* and includes indoor presentations and an outdoor session. The workshop will focus on the Fundamental BMPs with an emphasis on controlling the flow of water and minimizing/stabilizing exposed mineral soil. The content was developed by the Maine Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and the Maine Forest Service.

This workshop is approved for the following continuing education credits:

*SAF* - 4 category 1 credits
*CLP* - 1 day recertification
*Master Logger* - 5 credit hours

Lunch will be provided courtesy of The Sustainable Forestry Initiative.
