Dear NRDC Action Fund Activist,
- "Climate change is speeding toward catastrophe. The next decade is crucial, U.N. panel says" – The New York Times
- "Humanity can still stop the worst consequences of climate change, but time is running out, U.N.'s IPCC warns" – PBS News Hour
- "World is on brink of catastrophic warming, U.N. climate change report says" – The Washington Post
Recent headlines paint a terrifying picture of our climate future. We've got less than a decade to slash greenhouse gases in HALF, or watch warming spiral beyond 1.5 degrees Celsius, the point at which climate disasters will wreak havoc on all life.
Despite this dire reality, House Republicans recently passed a package of fossil-fuel-first bills that would spell climate disaster, including support for the Keystone XL pipeline, mandating a massive expansion of dirty drilling, and other short-sighted, dangerous provisions.
The NRDC Action Fund is considering every option to fight back, so it's important for us to understand where our most loyal supporters stand on this issue. Can you answer this quick question?
Do you think the U.S. is doing enough to combat the climate crisis?
1.5 degrees Celsius warming above pre-industrial levels was our line in the sand. The point at which the world agreed we must not pass, or risk threatening the survival of our planet.
But we're watching that goal slip away.
Already, our world has warmed 1.1 degrees. And that warming will continue unless we rapidly accelerate our transition away from fossil fuels.
That's why right now, we're fighting to stop politicians from greenlighting out of control fossil fuel development. And we're also helping to advance new legislation that will speed the transition to a clean energy future.
Our success depends on people like you. That's why it's so important for the NRDC Action Fund to know where you stand on this issue.
Do you think the U.S. is doing enough to combat the climate crisis?
Thanks for taking a moment to answer this question.
Sincerely,
Kevin S. Curtis
