The Biden administration is proposing significant changes for the 2030 census, including the adoption of a MENA category as well as an Iranian subcategory. For years, NIAC and many others have been working tirelessly to establish a MENA category, for many reasons. An accurate count of our community will help us know far more about it, helping to overcome cultural, linguistic, and systemic barriers to accessing government services. It will address gaps in research and policymaking on health outcomes, socioeconomic conditions, and civic engagement. By accurately counting and representing our communities, our community can also secure federal resources and support from agencies like the Small Business Administration.
Our community is a key part of the fabric of American life, and deserves to be counted and officially recognized by the U.S. government, like many other groups. Take action today so these changes are adopted and implemented as soon as possible. [[link removed]]
