Statement from U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross on Q4 and Annual 2019 GDP: Economy Grows 2.3% in 2019 [ [link removed] ]
Recently, the Department of Commerces Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) released the fourth quarter and annual gross domestic product (GDP) numbers. The Bureau found that the real gross domestic product increased at an annual rate of 2.1 percent in the fourth quarter and 2.3 percent for all of 2019, continuing to beat expectations.

On Monday, January 27, 2020, Vice President Mike Pence administered the oath of office to members of President Donald J. Trumps Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders at the White House in celebration of the Lunar New Year. Key Administration officials speaking at the event included co-chairs of the White House Initiative on Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders U. S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao and U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. U.S. Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia also gave remarks.

U.S. Census Kicks Off by Counting First Person in Rural Alaska [ [link removed] ]
The U.S. 2020 census has officially begun in Toksook Bay, a remote fishing village on the coast of Alaska. Steven Dillingham, head of the US Census Bureau, has kicked off the count with a ceremonial visit to a tribal elder, Lizzie Chimiugak Nenguryarr, 90. The census takes place every 10 years, and most of the country's residents are counted from mid-March. But census workers always make an early start in Alaska in January, when the ground is frozen enough to traverse.

Personal Income and Outlays, December 2019 [ [link removed] ]
Personal income increased 0.2 percent in December after increasing 0.4 percent in November. Wages and salaries, the largest component of personal income, increased 0.3 percent in December after increasing 0.4 percent in November. Current-dollar disposable personal income (DPI), after-tax income, increased 0.2 percent in December after increasing 0.4 percent in November.

U.S. Department of Commerce Invests $7.4 Million to Support Workforce Training and Emergency Management Efforts in Disaster-Impacted Areas of California [ [link removed] ]

Earlier this month, Assistant Secretary Fleming announced two EDA grants totaling $7.4 million to the state of California. The grants, announced at Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) in Sonoma County, will support disaster-related workforce training and emergency management efforts in wildfire stricken areas of the state. The EDA grants will be matched with $1.075 million in local investment.

Spectrum sharing strategies hold great promise for meeting the growing needs of commercial and federal users. This is an area of intense study at NTIA as we seek to protect critical federal missions while enabling new commercial opportunities. As part of an assessment conducted with the Department of Defense, we are happy to announce significant progress in finding potential spectrum sharing options for the 3450-3550 MHz band, as outlined in a new technical report.

Super Bowl LIV (54): February 2, 2020 [ [link removed] ]

Super Bowl LIV (54) takes place Sunday, February 2, 2020, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. The first Super Bowl, played on Jan. 15, 1967, at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, saw the Green Bay Packers beat the Kansas City Chiefs 35-10. This will be the 16th NFL championship game in Florida: the 11th time in south Florida (Miami) and the 6th time at the home of the Miami Dolphins. Miami hosted its first Super Bowl (II) in 1968 and its most recent (XLIV) in 2010.

The U.S. Census Bureau has created an interactive data visualization about the players in the two competing teams: the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs. An infographic features the metro areas represented by all 32 NFL teams.
