Team,
Today’s a special day. On this day 6 years ago, I announced I was running for Congress.
It wasn’t an easy decision. I came from working class roots. I lived a life of service — from enlisting in the National Guard to serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. I could have never imagined running for Congress.
But I have always gone where the fight is — and in 2017, the most important fight was right there in Colorado.
Just a few months into his presidency, Donald Trump abandoned any intention of putting politics aside to unite our country. He targeted our immigrant communities, threatened to rip away health care, and rammed through tax breaks for his allies.
And in the middle of all that, our congressman refused to stand up. Coloradans deserved better leadership. So after many long nights of consideration, we launched our campaign on April 11, 2017.
There wasn’t much time to build a campaign, but we made every minute count. We called, texted, canvassed, and walked every street of the community to share our positive vision for our country. And thankfully, Coloradans agreed.
We’ve gotten a lot done since then. From once-in-a-generation investments in our infrastructure to revitalizing our economy after a pandemic, our country is stronger because of our bold actions. And there’s still more to do!
Nobody is an expert on every issue — nor do I try to be. But that’s not what leadership is. Leadership is more than just showing up and making promises. It’s about learning, listening, and then acting boldly.
As long as I have the honor of serving you, I will be there for you. I will listen. I will fight. And I will work toward a better future for us all.
If you agree with our mission, I hope you can spare a few dollars to help keep our fight going.
