It happened again, friend.

We started the week with news of yet another mass shooting -- this time in Louisville. Four were killed and another nine were injured. This comes just weeks after six students and teachers were killed at a school in Nashville.

In both attacks, the shooter used an AR-15.

It's a disheartening thought, but mass shootings are now a routine occurrence in this country. Make no mistake, this is a uniquely American phenomenon, and it’s time that we come to grips with the truth -- our uniquely weak gun laws are to blame.

Add your name in support of universal background checks and an assault weapons ban. Help me show Congress and the NRA that the American people are demanding action on gun violence immediately.

Do you know what else is uniquely American, folks?

One of two major political parties in this country has an expressed policy of putting the Gun Lobby ahead of the victims of gun violence.

I'll never forget my day in Congress. Several of my GOP colleagues showed up with AR-15 lapel pins instead of American flags — a shameful show of fealty to the NRA.

In Nashville, three lawmakers were literally expelled for leading gun safety protests. Think about that, friend. More was done to silence dissent than to keep people safe!

We have many obstacles ahead of us, but I'm committed to strengthening our gun safety laws -- including through universal background checks and an outright ban on assault weapons. But we need widespread public support to do it:

Add your name to say you support universal background checks and an assault weapons ban. The more people that sign, the louder our message to the NRA will be.

Thank you,

Eric
