A federal judge in Texas just made the unprecedented and outrageous decision to order the Food & Drug Administration to suspend approval of mifepristone, the first of two medications used in most abortion care in the US.

This is unacceptable.

Today’s decision removes access to a safe, effective medication that has been used by more than 5 million people since the FDA approved it, EVEN IF IT’S USED IN COMPLIANCE WITH RESTRICTIVE STATE LAWS! Unbelievable.

This is an extremist, political attempt to take away women’s freedom to make their own private medical decisions. It not only threatens women’s health — but also the FDA approval process and patient access to other medications.

I will do everything in my power to secure abortion access in North Carolina. Like the majority of Americans and North Carolinians, I believe that reproductive choice is a fundamental right. I believe that we must never go back.

But John, North Carolina Republicans have made it clear that banning abortion is their plan for our state. We can’t know what dangerous legislation they may push through in coming months — but we can start preparing NOW to hold them accountable.
