Work requirements won’t lead to better employment or economic outcomes
|
Rep. Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) and 14 other Republicans recently introduced a harmful bill that would increase the number of people subject to time limits in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Despite evidence proving that expanded work requirements and time limits are ineffective in supporting long-term economic stability, the bill is anticipated to be one of many attempts to lower nutrition spending in this year’s Farm Bill reauthorization. To make SNAP equitable, we must end time limits altogether.

We must continue to update the Thrifty Food Plan to ensure SNAP benefits are sufficient |
In 2021, the U.S. Department of Agriculture updated the Thrifty Food Plan for the first time in nearly 50 years. This update resulted in a 21 percent increase in SNAP benefits per person, or roughly an extra $36 per month. Congress must reject any attempts to roll back this update and instead consider shifting to a less restrictive food plan to reflect the cost of healthy meals more accurately. |

We should assess Medicaid—and states—over the coming year on how well they ensure the program reaches people who are eligible. |

April 20, 2023, at 01:00 PM ET / 10:00AM PT
College students are one of the most at-risk populations for food insecurity, which harms their educational and professional goals and contributes to lower attendance and completion rates. With temporary expansions set to expire on May 11, 2023, how can we ensure all students in need can access nutritional support?
In this webinar, speakers will address the root causes of hunger on college campuses and demonstrate how a lack of comprehensive federal policies contribute to this issue. Register here.
