** A Summary of ADHRB’s Engagement at HRC52
------------------------------------------------------------

Americans for Democracy & Human Rights in Bahrain (ADHRB) participated in the 52nd session of the Human Rights Council, held between 27 February and 4 April 2023. During this session, ADHRB delivered thirteen oral interventions under six items, highlighting human rights violations in Bahrain, Yemen, and Saudi Arabia. ADHRB made nine interventions under items 3, 4, 6, 8, and 9 regarding the situation of human rights in Bahrain, three of which were delivered under item 6, the Bahrain Universal Periodic Review. Furthermore, ADHRB delivered two interventions under items 2 and 3 highlighting the violations committed against the Yemeni people, and two interventions under items 3 and 4 regarding Saudi Arabia’s human rights violations.

On 24 March, ADHRB has delivered an oral intervention at the United Nation Human Rights Council session 52 under item 6 during the Universal Review Periodic of Bahrain. The executive director of ADHRB Husain Abdulla Said in his intervention: Hamad bin Isa Alkhalifa must be held accountable Bahrain’s Human Rights Violations.

** Bahrain authorities subjecting prisoners to “slow death” by not providing treatment and health care, Al-Khawaja states

On the 6th of April, a statement ([link removed]) was published by “Bahrain Government Hospitals” on the Bahrain News Agency (in Arabic only) claiming that Al-Khawaja “recently underwent the necessary medical care, which proved that he did not suffer from any heart or chest problems” as well as claiming that he had “had two medical appointments on March 26, 2023 to conduct medical examinations in the heart and prostate, but he refused to be transferred to the hospital using the bus designated for transporting inmates from the reform and rehabilitation center to the hospital”.

After learning about this statement, Al-Khawaja called his daughter to correct two inaccuracies in the false statement.

** Hasan Hameed Meshaimea
------------------------------------------------------------

Updated: Hasan Hameed Meshaimea was 25 years old when he was warrantlessly arrested in a pool by masked police officers. He was then subjected to physical and psychological torture and forced to confess. He is currently held at Dry Dock Detention Center where he is still awaiting the judgment of his trial.

On 1 October 2020, at around 11:00 pm, masked police officers entered a pool in Al-Malikiya and, without any justification, took Hasan to the kitchen where he was cut off from other people. He was then stripped of his clothes, except for his underwear. After that, he was physically attacked by a tall, large man who slapped him on his face. He was also threatened by two officers, one of whom was carrying a thick wooden stick and the other carrying a big metal tong.
