And there it is. Perhaps the last unbroken promise from this president, thrown to the scrap heap like virtually every single other claim he’s made. Of course, it’s not a surprise that Trump lied or that McConnell’s Republican Party has been privately gunning for your safety net for decades, but I want to reassure you — I’m ready for this.
As long as I am in Congress I will do everything in my power to stop these underhanded schemes to take away the benefits we as Americans have earned, but I need your help. When he first launched his campaign, Trump promised to be different than every other Republican, but he’s following the same deceptive playbook as McConnell: Cut taxes for the super wealthy, jack up the deficit to unthinkable levels, and then profess that there is no longer room in the budget for basic programs that millions of Americans depend upon.
Well, as House Budget Chair I know better. Getting our country on track won’t happen by hanging working families out to dry. It’ll happen when we require the super wealthy to pay their fair share and ensure that every American has a real shot at the American Dream,
