Next week, the Judiciary Committee will examine these policies during a field hearing in Manhattan (Twitter). Rep. Jim Jordan Subpoenas Former FBI Director Chris Wray for Targeting Catholics
CBS: The Republican-led House Judiciary Committee has issued a subpoena to FBI Director Christopher Wray for records as part of a probe into the bureau’s handling of an FBI field analysis that proposed further developing sources within a group of traditionalist Catholic chapels in Richmond, Va., to look for signs of radicalization and burgeoning domestic violent extremism. The committee’s chairman, Rep. Jim Jordan, of Ohio, accused the FBI of undertaking “domestic violent extremism investigations against Catholic Americans.” Jordan said of information provided to the committee previously regarding the Jan. 23 analysis that it showed the FBI had “relied on at least one undercover agent to produce its analysis” and that the bureau proposed “that its agents engage in outreach to Catholic parishes to develop sources among the clergy and church leadership to inform on Americans practicing their faith” (CBS). Washington Examiner: Jordan concluded by expressing concern over the fact that the document was distributed to field offices around the country and approved by at least two senior officials. He justified the subpoena by claiming that Wray had ignored the committee’s earlier requests (Washington Examiner).

Elon Musk Tags NPR’s Twitter Account as “Government Funded Media”
New York Post: Twitter has removed the “US state-affiliated media” label from National Public Radio’s official account and has instead replaced it with “Government Funded Media.” The change was made after the social media site was widely criticized for giving NPR the designation. Twitter CEO Elon Musk tweeted last Wednesday that NPR met the site’s definition of “state-affiliated media” as “outlets where the state exercises control over editorial content through financial resources, direct or indirect political pressures, and/or control over production and distribution” (New York Post). National Review: John Lansing, the president of NPR, also condemned the decision in an official statement shared on Twitter. While NPR was founded to represent “all of America,” the news outlet consistently displays a strong left-leaning political bias. A 2014 Pew Research Center survey found that the “average ideological placement” of a typical NPR consumer was more liberal than HuffPost or Buzzfeed and in line with Al Jazeera America, The Colbert Report, and New York Times. Notably, the survey found that the average NPR consumer has a stronger liberal bias than Fox News consumers have a conservative bias (National Review).
