Dear
Friend,
Each year on April 10th (4/10), the Green Party of the United
States takes time to reflect on the Four Pillars and Ten
Key Values. Together, they underpin the positions,
platform, and efforts of our party. This year we thought we'd ask a
few current, former, and future green candidates about which of the
key values spoke most to them.
The Green Party of the United States has always cultivated
excellent candidates that speak deeply to a wide range of people
across age, gender, race, and cultural lines.
"For me, the value I most closely align with is Ecological
Wisdom. My approach with anything I do is with openness and
love using vulnerability and empathy as a tool for
connection. This does not mean I do not fight for the truth, but I
believe there is power in storytelling and the one I want to tell is
that to my grandchildren when and if we still have a planet to live on
at that time."

Armstrong, Current 2023 Candidate for Seattle City
Council's 3rd District

The Green Party of the United States and our state party candidates
help put local issues in a broader national and global context.
"For far too long Scrantonians have been coming together without a
voice, organizing benefits and events without satisfying results and
only suffering repercussions because of a lack of interest from
government leaders. The projects make sense, and work, but the leaders
in government don’t get involved. That time is over. That time is now.
Community Based Economics thrives in Scranton, and
now, with a little help of a friend in me, the business, government,
community, and nonprofit relationships can be so much stronger. And it
will be."

Maopolski, Future 2024 Candidate for State Representative
in PA's 113rd District

Our candidates stay focused on the long term for peace and planet,
with tangible solutions rooted in the Ten
Key Values.
"I believe that Future Focus & Sustainability
is the value that encompasses all of the others. People often ask me
what my top priority as a candidate is. The thing about the
progressive movement there is no single issue (housing, healthcare,
labor, equity, climate, and so on) that can be separated from all of
the other issues; they are all inextricably entwined, and we must push
forward on all issues at once. But that push forward is about the
future, and where we want to see our societies in 10, 20, 50 years.
Right now, it seems all political and economic focus is about today
and tomorrow, not whether there will be a functional society or a
livable planet further down the road. This is because the two
corporate parties only operate on behalf of their corporate owners'
stock portfolios. We in the Green Party must commit ourselves
daily to ensuring that sustainable and livable future for our kids,
their kids, and all of the precious life on earth we have a
responsibility to safeguard."
- Jason
Call, Future 2024 Candidate for WA's 2nd Congressional
District

Finally, our candidates can draw on a depth of experience from the
lessons learned in decades of campaigns for offices at all levels and
in virtually every state.
"As a candidate, the four pillars and ten key values were
always my foundation when developing my campaign platform. In
2010, we were the first Green Party candidates to champion the real
eco-socialist Green New Deal. Healing the planet by becoming free of
fossil fuels by 2030, ending all wars and occupation, democratizing
elections and prioritizing people and the planet over profits
are the key values in action."
- Gloria Mattera,
Former NY Lt. Gubernatorial Candidate
