On Friday, a Texas judge overturned the 23-year Food and Drug Administration approval of Mifepristone, commonly known as the abortion pill. I probably don’t have to tell anyone reading this email how monumental a blow this decision could ultimately be to the reproductive freedom of millions of Americans. If allowed to stand, this ruling would ban abortion medication.
I hate alarmist language, but this is a crisis.
I got to work immediately with my colleague from Texas, and this morning, Rep. Lizzie Fletcher and I introduced the Protecting Reproductive Freedom Act. Our bill would reaffirm that the FDA, not extremist judges or far-right politicians, has the ultimate and final authority to regulate abortion medication.
Friday’s decision could impact blue states, like New York, where abortion remains legal, meaning abortion care would be less accessible and less safe, no matter where you live. It’s a terrifying reality, but we’re fighting back.
I will always stand on the side of freedom. Chip in $5 today to ensure I can continue our fight in Washington.
When I first joined the special election race last year, I did so on the cusp of a radicalized SCOTUS decision eliminating the long-held abortion protections for women in Roe v Wade. During my time in the Army, I fought to defend the freedoms of this country across the globe. I refuse to stand by while those very freedoms are being ripped away from millions of Americans here at home.
‘Choice is on the ballot’ wasn’t simply a campaign slogan. It is the result of a 50-year targeted attempt by far-right extremists to control women’s bodies and rip away their freedom. As you did during my campaign, I am asking you to stand with me. Help me protect access to abortion and hold far-right extremists accountable.
Friend: Patriots fight for freedom. I fight on the side of patriots, and I know you do too.
Please, contribute what you can today. The attacks will keep coming, and we need resources to fight back.
Together,
Pat
