HUGE update John,

Mothers Against Greg Abbott is premiering our newest ad, Lights Out, tomorrow—you’ll be able to catch it on any of our social media platforms. Until then, we’re working round the clock to raise the funds we need to carry the ad on air as the Texas Lege continues the debate over school vouchers.

We set a $10,000 goal last week with the hopes that we would raise the necessary funds to produce Mothers Against Greg Abbott’s very first ad of 2023 and get it up on air. Unfortunately we fell short, leaving us scrambling to make sure we can make up the difference before midnight tonight.

We’re asking you to rush a donation to help us make up for the shortfall and properly power our latest ad and everything else we’ve got in store.

With school vouchers coming up for a hugely important Texas House committee hearing tomorrow (more details below), we couldn’t afford to wait. Despite the shortfall, we took a risk. We’ve invested about 25% of our funds and got our newest ad opposing school vouchers filmed so it can go live TOMORROW, the day of the hearing.

That’s put Mothers Against Greg Abbott in a tough situation when it comes to funding: We have to pay ourselves back quickly for the cost of the ad so we can fund all of the other work we’re planning for this #TxLege session, and beyond.

We need another $5,000 — actually, $5,067 — so we can hit our goal and fully cover the cost of Lights Out.
Help fund our Ad
While we work tirelessly to support candidates (and vote others out of office), Mothers Against Greg Abbott is a grassroots organization — which means our work is 24/7, 365 days a year. We know the buildup to the midterm elections was intense, and the excitement over 2024 is already starting. But it’s our job to stay focused on the mission that has always united moms and others like us: government that represents and fights for all our families.

Anything you can contribute now will make a big difference as we spread the word about opposing school vouchers.

We can do this if we do this together.

CALL TO ACTION: #TXLEGE
Tomorrow, Tuesday April 11th, is a really big day on school vouchers – and not just because of our new ad. At 8AM, the House Public Education Committee is holding a hearing on multiple key bills seeking to implement school vouchers and siphon money away from our public schools.

Some of you might have read that the Texas House recently passed an amendment to the state budget that would ban state funding for school vouchers. That’s good news. We hope it means the House will vote against school vouchers when any voucher legislation reaches the floor.

But we’re not out of the woods yet. As the Texas Tribune noted, the House budget amendment was largely “symbolic” because the Texas Senate won’t follow suit — so the budget will pass without the amendment. And that means school vouchers are very much still on the table. That’s why tomorrow’s hearing is so important.

That’s where supporters like you come in.

➡️ We need everyone to call the chair of the House Public Education Committee, Brad Buckley, at (512) 463-0694 and tell him why you support our public schools, and why you oppose giving taxpayer money away to private schools through school vouchers.

We have to make sure Representative Buckley and his colleagues understand how many of us are standing strong against school vouchers.
