Hello Comrade,
At our next general meeting on April 26, we’ll discuss and vote on a strike-ready resolution. We hope you’ll join us in re-establishing our commitment to labor solidarity, especially given the likelihood of a critical UPS strike this summer. You can find the full text of the resolution here — please look it over in advance of the meeting.
Members, sign up to be a delegate for the national convention!
With regrets, we’ve decided to postpone our April Reimagining Public Safety meeting indefinitely. We’re looking back at the public safety campaign, learning, and looking for new avenues for community engagement. Rest assured, we remain committed to abolition and creating a safer Akron.
The grand jury for the police officers who murdered Jayland Walker begins today. This is to determine if criminal charges will be filed. There is no definitive timeline, but we could have results before the end of the week. Nine Summit County registered voters will be empaneled as primary grand jurors and three to five people will be picked to serve as alternates. At least seven jurors are required to vote yes in order to issue an indictment, also referred to as a true bill. The city has preemptively placed fencing and concrete barricades around the “Justice Center” and are prepared to make arrests. We want everyone to be as safe as possible, and will try to keep you abreast of events.
In solidarity,
Akron DSA
