John–
We're fed up with seeing shooting after shooting, day after day. Once
again, we're processing breaking news of a mass shooting while we're still
mourning the lives taken in another state.
Early this morning in Louisville, Kentucky, at least four people were shot
and killed and nine more were wounded, including five people with gunshot
wounds. Two police officers who responded to the scene were among those
wounded. Our hearts are with all those impacted by this horrific violence
and with the entire community.
But we need more than thoughts and prayers. We need action NOW.

action to end this crisis. We cannot accept these tragedies as normal.

This tragedy shows the inevitable consequences of inaction on gun safety.
Kentucky has some of the weakest gun laws and the 14th-highest rate of gun
deaths in the country. But instead of taking any life-saving action, state
lawmakers have actively worked to weaken the state's existing laws.
Just last month, the state legislature passed a dangerous bill that would
make it illegal for any public officer or employee of the state, including
state and local law enforcement, to enforce any new federal gun laws or
regulations. Gun extremists in the Kentucky General Assembly also tried to
pass a bill that would have forced colleges and universities to allow guns
on campuses, putting the state's young people at further risk of deadly
violence.
It's a recipe for disaster.
But there is hope. Our volunteers have defeated more than 100 bad gun
bills already this year in statehouses across the country, including in
Kentucky. And just last week, Students Demand Action volunteers led more
than 300 walkouts at schools in 40 states and Washington, D.C. to demand
action.
Our grassroots movement has what it takes to stop the constant drumbeat of
gun violence that kills 120 people and wounds hundreds more every single
day—and it's going to take all of us. [ [link removed] ]Find an event near you to help

Thank you for being a part of this movement. Please do what you need to do
to take care of yourself in the aftermath of yet another tragedy.
