Team,
A Trump-appointed federal judge in Texas has ordered the Food and Drug Administration to pull mifepristone, a pill used for medication abortions, off the market. In a contradictory ruling, a federal judge in Washington demanded the FDA keep the pill available in most states that allow abortion.
Currently, the future of mifepristone is uncertain. If the Texas judge’s ruling goes into effect, it would effectively strip millions of women of their right to safe, non-surgical abortions.
I want to be clear, team: No lawmaker or judge should be allowed to weigh in on women's personal healthcare decisions. And for over 20 years, mifepristone has been used by more than 5 million women to safely end their pregnancies in the United States since it was first approved by the FDA.
Since the conservative-led Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, anti-choice lawmakers are doing everything they can to try and severely limit abortion care or ban it altogether. This is unacceptable.
Team, I will continue to stand alongside the majority of Washingtonians and Americans who believe that reproductive care IS health care. Personal decisions about reproductive health care — including abortions — are best made by women in consultation with their doctors.
I'll be proud to vote for the re-introduced Women's Health Protection Act in the House — which would enshrine the right to choose under the law and would prohibit bans, mandatory waiting periods, and other restrictions on a person's reproductive rights.
Join me in supporting the 2023 Women's Health Protection Act by signing my petition. Together, we can urge Congress to codify the right to choose into law and protect the lives of millions of American women. >> [link removed]
