On Friday, a Trump-appointed, anti-abortion federal judge in Texas issued a ruling that threatens the future use of mifepristone, a safe, effective medication used to provide medication abortion.
If this ruling goes into effect, it will be catastrophic, and disproportionately limit abortion access for the most marginalized people.
We must use every tool at our disposal to make sure medication abortion remains available. Ayanna went on MSNBC in the aftermath of this ruling to make clear that we're not backing down.
Mifepristone is the first pill taken in the two-pill medication abortion prescription — currently used in over half of all abortions in the U.S. It is a safe, effective medication that has been used by more than five million people since the FDA approved it more than 20 years ago.
We see this ruling for what it is — a coordinated effort by anti-abortion activists and elected officials to dismantle sexual and reproductive health care nationwide. And they won't stop until they have a nationwide ban on abortion.
