John,
I never really thought about wrongful convictions until I started doing research for my 2006 book The Innocent Man, and my eyes were opened to the injustices of the criminal legal system. I knew I had to get involved and help resolve the issue — that’s what brought me to the Innocence Project.
Every year, the Innocence Project holds a gala to celebrate both exonerees and the incredibly powerful work they do to save innocent people from wrongful conviction. This year, we’ll be honoring Innocence Project Board Member and one of the Exonerated Five, Yusef Salaam, as well as his mother, Sharonne, who fought tirelessly for her son throughout his wrongful incarceration and has been a huge advocate for justice reform ever since. I’m so excited to celebrate their and our other honorees tremendous work, and I want you to be there with me.
That’s right, I’m inviting you and a guest to join me at my table during the Innocence Project’s annual gala in New York City on May 11 — all you have to do is make a donation right now, and you’ll be automatically entered for your chance to win, while also supporting the life-changing work that we’ll be celebrating at this special event.
The Innocence Project will cover travel and accommodations for you and a guest — all you have to do is show up, take some photos with me, and join me in honoring the amazing folks who do this work every day.
John, this work means so much to me. I truly don’t think there’s anything worse than our system convicting someone and then locking them up for a crime they didn’t commit. But that’s the sad reality for so many people in our country.
I’m so incredibly grateful for the work the Innocence Project team does every day to right these wrongs, and I’d be honored to have you join me on this special night, highlighting their victories.
So chip in right now, and you'll be automatically entered to win a trip to New York to celebrate the Innocence Project with me at their annual gala.
Thank you so much, and looking forward to meeting you,
John Grisham
