BREAKING: On Friday night, a male judge in Texas officially ruled against the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in a decision meant to effectively ban mifepristone, an abortion pill critical to medication abortions and miscarriage management. This ban would also apply to states where abortion access is protected.

UPDATE: We are writing because, after Friday’s ruling was announced, it is now even more dangerous to be a woman in America – even in blue states.

According to the Guardian, following the overturning of Roe v. Wade, medication abortions account for “at least 53% of abortions in the U.S., making it the most common choice for pregnancy termination.”

The FDA described the hearing to remove the abortion pill from the market as “extraordinary and unprecedented” – and added that withdrawing access to mifepristone would cause significant harm by depriving patients of a safe and effective drug that has been in use for more than 20 years. It is also used to help patients who are experiencing a miscarriage.

The majority of Americans (8/10 according to NARAL Pro-Choice America) support the right to safe and legal abortion access in our country. Now, access to this critical pill is under threat nationwide. That means even states where abortion is legal may be impacted by this ruling. We will not accept this reality for women in America. We are fighting back.
