Personal Data Collection Bill, HB 18 to Remove Harmful LGBT Language Rep. Shelby Slawson is carrying a high-priority bill for better online data protection for kids online. This bill would prevent digital services providers like Google or Meta from collecting certain types of personal data on minors. The initial version of this otherwise valuable bill contained a fatal flaw by including "sexual orientation." We alerted you to this language earlier this week. We have since learned that an there is now an updated version of the bill, which no longer contains harmful "sexual orientation" language. We are grateful for the many supporters who voiced their concerns directly to the author's office and to members of the Select Committee on Youth Health and Safety; and we are thankful that we were able to voice our concerns to Rep. Slawson and her staff. We are no longer opposed to this bill. Let's continue to work together for faith, family, and freedom in Texas. |
