A Trump-appointed federal judge just suspended the use of the abortion
pill in all 50 states.

The pill is used for 53% of all abortions and is the only access that
people in many states have. This is an emergency, and the Biden
administration has only five days until the ruling takes effect.(1)

The FDA has the authority to issue an Emergency Use Authorization to keep
the abortion pill available, and it must act immediately to do so. Courage
California has joined Democracy for America, TakeItBack, and a coalition
of other groups to raise millions of voices to demand that the abortion
pill remain accessible.

The federal judge in Texas who just yanked access from millions of people
waited until the evening of a holiday to release his ruling.(2)

He knew how wildly unpopular (and unethical and unconstitutional) his
decision was and hoped the timing would mean we wouldn’t be paying
attention.

We are DEFINITELY paying attention.

This suspension of the abortion pill is part of a decades-long effort to
ban and criminalize reproductive rights. Pregnancy can be life-threatening
even for healthy individuals, and forcing someone to carry a pregnancy can
lead to health complications, financial strain, and reduced educational
and employment opportunities.

In other words, this is a medical emergency, and the FDA must act as such
-- before the ruling takes effect.
