Let me be the first to thank you for joining Sunrise, the youth-led movement to halt climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process. My name is Varshini, I’m the Executive Director of the Sunrise Movement, and I’m so excited to welcome you to our movement at such an exciting moment!

Right now we’re harnessing all of our people power to gear up for 2020. Because we only have 11 years to transform our society in order to preserve a livable future, this election is our last chance to elect leaders who will truly have time to make the changes we need. That’s why we’re going all in to make sure we elect a new wave of leaders who will make implementing the Green New Deal and halting the climate crisis their top priorities on day one.

But as you can imagine, the Koch Brothers and their fossil fuel billionaire friends are doing all they can to slow our momentum. So we need your help.

If you haven’t already, sign our petition telling the Democratic National Committee to hold a Climate Debate so we can see which candidates truly have what it takes to stand up and fight for our future. If you have already done that, write a quick letter to the editor for your local paper explaining why we need a climate debate. I bet that you -- just like me -- have felt the despair or fear caused by supercharged hurricanes, droughts, and giant forest fires. I bet that the Green New Deal gave you renewed hope that we can still tackle climate change. Let me say this -- you are not alone.
