Friends -

is writing a bit about his read of the day’s events. He’ll share his thoughts and insights and try to give some behind-the-scenes vignettes. He wants to make sure the trial is as transparent as possible.

Below are Senator Murphy’s takeaways from day two of senators submitting questions for House managers and Trump’s defense team.

- Team Murphy

A reporter from the Boston Globe (Go Sox!) called me yesterday morning to talk about how novel these behind-the-scenes threads are. She filed a story in which I learned that I've gained 30,000 Twitter followers since the beginning of the trial!

Huh - no Dershowitz at the president's counsel's table. My fingers are crossed they banned him after the crazy dangerous argument he made last night about a president's immunity if he abuses his power to secure his reelection.

The second question of the day is from Rand Paul, and Roberts rejects it. I notice that he reads Paul's question first to himself (something he never does), so maybe he got tipped off that Paul's question was way out of line?

Let me just note, for all of you who still remember we have a Democratic presidential primary in four days, that all the Democratic senators who are running are getting along swimmingly. Lots of chatter between Amy, Elizabeth, Bernie and Michael during the breaks in action.

Manchin has chocolate milk! This is a big deal because it suggests that the rules might allow things to be added to milk. I tell Manchin he should be really careful about the precedent he just set because there are a lot more powerful additives available than chocolate sauce.

I gave my first question away to a senator who hadn't asked a good one yet, and then by the time I wrote a new one I liked (on the importance of Bolton's testimony), the clock had run out (I was the next question up at adjournment). But here it is in case you care:

If you can afford it, please consider making a $3 donation before tonight’s end-of-month deadline. Our campaign has some modest fundraising goals to meet, and right now, we’re short of where we need to be. Senator Murphy is counting on you to help us close that gap. Thank you in advance. Your support ensures he can focus on the work we expect him to do.
