UPDATE: Good news. Local elected officials can reappoint the two Black Tennessee Dems that were expelled from the legislature -- and many have promised to.
But Memphis TV now reports that Republican leaders have threatened to cut millions of dollars in state funding for their cities if they do.
YESTERDAY'S EMAIL:
Last night, Maxwell Frost spoke with MSNBC's Lawrence O’Donnell about the two Black Democratic lawmakers Tennessee Republicans expelled from the state House.
He told O’Donnell, "For people in this country that think racism doesn’t exist, look at what happened to these young Black men who stood up and said, ‘We don’t want kids being shot in this country.'"
Like the sit-in John Lewis led on the floor of the U.S. House in 2016 to protest inaction on gun control after a mass shooting in an Orlando nightclub, these Tennessee lawmakers joined protests after kids were shot and lawmakers refused to take action -- or to even listen.
Watch the short clip here. Then, please donate to Tennessee Democrats Justin Jones and Justin Pearson so they can run again in upcoming special elections. Republicans may have thought they could silence these two leaders, but they are going to come back bigger and stronger than ever.
