Operation Milagro

Sea Shepherd crews are on the front lines in Mexico, protecting the most endangered marine mammal in the world.
The vaquita, a tiny porpoise endemic to the Gulf of California, faces extinction due to rampant gillnet poaching in the area. Only 6-19 of these elusive mammals remain in existence.
Sea Shepherd has been working with Mexican authorities for six years, removing the illegal nets that threaten the survival of the vaquita and many other species found in the area. Over 1000 pieces of illegal fishing gear have been removed from the home of the vaquita, saving countless lives and giving the vaquita a fighting change at survival. Protecting the Oceans Around the World

Sea Shepherd Legal has signed an agreement with Ecuador’s Attorney General to fight illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing.
Ecuador is home to some of the most extraordinary marine ecosystems in the world. Unfortunately, such richness attracts poaching, threatening the long-term viability of marine biodiversity, the livelihoods of Ecuador’s local communities, and Ecuador’s economy as a whole.
