Happy Easter, True Texan friends!

He has risen, indeed!

Of course we know what happened 2000 years ago.  Now here's what happened last week... and everything you need to know for this week!  It's the True Texan Weekly Newsletter!

It's time! My family and I have been blockwalking for our GCISD candidates.
I hope you're walking for yours!

Our True Texans softball team is now 2 and 0, but more importantly, we spent time praying for teammate Shelley Luther, who had an aneurysm and is hospitalized.

Sadly, Rockwall/Kaufman, Brazos Valley, Bay Area, Denton County, and Beaumont Area all had social meet-ups this week, but nobody posted any pics in the TTP chat groups.  Bummer!

Citizen Advocates do hard things

Legislative Update

Citizen Advocates sometimes have to do hard things.  The photo is from the 2021 session where we were waiting to testify at a hearing. The hearing room and overflow areas were full, so we sat on the floor outside the room and waited our turn.  It isn't always easy, but is it worth it?  We think the answer is a resounding YES!  We just need more people joining us.  Consider coming to the Capitol with us on Tuesdays.

Several important legislative priorities passed the Senate this week, including bills to stop sexualization of children, ban gender modification of children, stop drag queen performances with children, stop drag queen events in libraries, and reigning in rogue DAs.  Another big one for TTP that passed this week is the ban on taxpayer funded lobbying.  Now we have to wait for the House to do their thing with these bills, which is a whole different ball game!  The House bill on getting dirty books out of schools and libraries passed out of committee and has been sent to Calendars.

Action items for the week of April 10 include registering/testifying or submitting online comments for several specific bills that are detailed in the weekly Citizen Advocate Friday message.

To read Fran's message from Friday, click here.

Remember that for House bills, you can submit online comments (but not for Senate bills).  The comment links are on the Committee Schedule where that bill is listed.  From Fran's email (linked above) open the Committee Schedule and go to the bottom of that page for the comment link.  Online comments are open from the time the schedule is posted until the hearing is closed.

If you cannot be at the Capitol (and we realize most of us cannot!) please do what you can by submitting online comments, making phone calls, or sending emails/letters.

Activist Training!

Here's your chance to become a Certified True Texan!  Classes are being offered April 22 in DFW.  Don't know what it means to be certified?

And now, sign up! We're offering 4 of our 5 core classes.  They get rave reviews!

Attendance Contest 📈

The winning location for our attendance contest gets a fantastic party with a food, drink, and a great speaker.  April is the last month to get your % increase up.  Make sure you're inviting people!  Here are the current Top 5 satellites, but note that these rankings change drastically with each new face, so it's still up for grabs!

  1. Brazos Valley
  2. Ellis County
  3. Denton County
  4. Beaumont Area
  5. Rio Grande Valley

Local Elections

Our list of recommended candidates for the upcoming local elections for city councils, ISD boards, and county colleges continues to grow, so check back often!  And don't forget to get your TTP yard sign out to tell your neighbors where to find help with their choices!  Add the topper on April 24!

Early voting starts April 24.  Election Day is May 6.

TTP yard signs are sold at all TTP meetings for $10.

Where can I find...?

Last week we showed you how to link to our social media pages from our website.  This week let's highlight that beautiful map of Texas!

Click on "Satellite Locations" to find the map.  That will take you to this:

Then you can either click on the red squares or scroll through the list of locations to get information on all our satellites across the state.  You are not alone!  There are True Texans fighting beside you all across the Great State of Texas!  Be a friend and tell all the Texans you know.

I'll share other tidbits from our website in future newsletters, but feel free to dig around and see what treasures you may find.

This week at True Texas Project... 🗓️

Thanks for reading!  Now to enjoy your Easter Sunday.

Thank you, Jesus, for Resurrection Life!  And thank You for letting me live my earthly life in Texas!

Julie and team

P.S. Huge news!!!! Ticket sales for Texas Tough officially closed on April 7, but that was just so we can make sure everything is organized on our end.  The hard deadline from the caterer is April 14.  We've got about 50 seats left, and we want to pack it out!  To do that, we're selling those last few seats for just $99!!!  Get them before someone else does!  You still have a chance to join over 500 of the best patriots in the state and squeeze into a General Admission seat at a great price!
