Yesterday, a right-wing federal judge suspended the FDA's approval of mifepristone, a commonly-used abortion drug that's been available for over two decades. This radical ruling would rob women of the ability to access safe, legal, and early abortion care — including in states where abortion is still legal.
This is just the latest example of the dangerous assault on abortion access and reproductive healthcare that's happening across the nation. When Republicans said that overturning Roe v. Wade was about returning the issue to states, they were lying. They will not stop until they have full control of our bodily autonomy.
We don't know what the final outcome of yesterday's ruling will be (I cannot stress enough that right now, mifepristone remains legal in Virginia). In the meantime, we must fight harder than ever to defeat anti-choice Republicans at all levels so that we can mount a full effort — at the municipal level, in state legislatures, and in Congress — to protect access to mifepristone and other abortion care. Here in the Commonwealth, that means holding the State Senate and doing everything we can to flip the House of Delegates blue in November.
