They’re losing their habitats at an alarming rate.

John,

The true mark of spring is the northern return of the monarch butterfly. But this year, we can expect to see a lot fewer of them thanks to climate change.

Monarch butterfly migration

According to a recent report from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Mexico, the population of monarchs wintering in Mexico’s hillsides dropped a staggering 22 percent in just one year.

John, monarchs are considered nature’s experts of climate adaptation. But because of global warming and exploitative logging practices, they’re losing the habitats where they breed and spend the winter at an alarming rate. In short, monarch butterflies cannot keep up.

Now, the WWF is calling on North American governments to implement policies that will ensure a safe and healthy future for monarchs and their habitats — and our SEEC Members are ready to answer.

Climate experts often reference butterflies as an extremely accurate indicator of our environmental health. This steep population decline spells disaster for our grassland and prairie ecosystems — and in turn, our primary agricultural regions.

Our Members know that every facet of our environment, from our pollinators to the regions they inhabit, is critical to maintaining a balanced climate. That’s why they’re fighting to enact environmental protections that ensure our monarch populations can recover from their dwindling numbers.

Will you make a contribution of $8 or more to ensure they can continue working to protect monarch butterflies and their habitats in 2024?
