Lesko on the Arraignment of President Donald J. Trump

On Tuesday, President Donald J. Trump was arraigned in New York. This was a sad day for our nation. Democrats will stop at nothing to go after President Trump. This case is weak and yet another political witch hunt to unjustly attack him. This is an egregious abuse of power from liberal New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who campaigned on going after President Trump. Bragg has brought trumped-up charges that baselessly claim there was intent to commit another crime without naming that crime to turn these charges into felonies. The Federal Election Commission and federal prosecutors at the Department of Justice already decided not to pursue this case. This is a sham indictment meant to score political points and weaponize our judicial system to help Democrats win another election.

GET THE FACTS: House Republicans Passed the Parents Bill of Rights

Parents have a fundamental right to have a say in their children's education. Unfortunately, the Biden Administration has worked to target parents and prevent them from having a say in what their children are being taught in the classroom. For this reason, House Republicans passed H.R. 5, the Parents Bill of Rights. This legislation protects parents' rights to know what’s being taught in schools and to see reading material, rights to be heard, rights to see their school's budget and spending, rights to protect their child’s privacy, and rights to be updated on any violent activity at school. This legislation requires school districts to post their curriculum information publicly, and schools must provide parents with a list of books and reading materials available in their school libraries. This bill also ensures that parents are allowed to address their school board on issues impacting the education of children in the school district and requires school districts to consider community feedback when making decisions. The Parents Bill of Rights also protects parents' First Amendment rights to the freedom of speech and assembly when it comes to their children's education. I was proud to vote for this important legislation, and I am continuing to work with my House Republican colleagues to protect parental rights.
