Let’s talk about judges, team,
The Dobbs decision last year was a painful reminder of why judges matter. So much gets decided in our federal courts – from issues around civil rights, to election integrity, to reproductive freedom.
Now for some good news: The Senate recently confirmed Jamar Walker to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, after Mark Warner and Tim Kaine recommended his nomination to President Biden. Judge Walker, a native of the Commonwealth, brings significant experience to the bench, and he is the first openly LGBT federal judge for Virginia.
And some more good news: Since taking office, President Biden has appointed more than 100 judges to the federal bench, including Justice Kentanji Brown Jackson. In addition to being principled, highly-qualified jurists, these nominees are bringing long-overdue diversity to the federal judiciary.
But here's the problem: During the Trump Presidency, Senate Republicans confirmed more than 200 judges to the federal bench. Already, we've seen the consequences of this partisan shift in the judiciary, as Trump-appointed judges have blocked Biden Administration action on climate change, restricted abortion access, and more.
That's why now more than ever, Mark is fighting to protect our Senate majority so we can keep confirming principled, experienced judges who will protect the rights we've fought so hard for. Will you join him in this critical work by chipping in just $5 right now?
In the Senate, Senator Warner and his colleagues are working to confirm more of the highly-qualified judges President Biden has nominated. But if we lose the Senate, we know for a fact that this critical work will grind to a halt.
The stakes are just too high to put Senate Republicans back in control of the future of our federal judiciary, potentially including future Supreme Court nominations.
So please, can you donate anything you can today to help us keep the Senate blue next year so we can continue our work to confirm smart and fair judges to our federal courts and protect the rights of Virginians and all Americans?
Thank you,
Team Warner
