Congresswoman Tenney's Weekly Newsletter Have questions? Contact Me Here Thank You for Participating in the 2023 Farm Bill Listening Tour As we wrap up our first Farm Bill Listening Tour across the 24th District for 2023, I am once again inspired by the hardworking farmers and producers across our region who work tirelessly every day despite increasing challenges. It was an honor to host open-door roundtables in Batavia, Oswego, and Phelps to hear directly from farmers in the district about their priorities and concerns for the agriculture community. In addition to these open-door discussions, I toured agricultural enterprises in Corfu, Sackets Harbor, Lodi, and Auburn. New York's 24th District is the top agriculture and dairy-producing district in the Northeast and across our state, and I could not be more honored to represent the farmers and producers who live and work here. Thank you to all who attended these open-door events and shared their frank and thoughtful testimony. I am compiling the testimony into a comprehensive report that I will present to the House Agriculture Committee as I continue to advocate on behalf of our district. The 2023 Farm Bill will set agriculture, nutrition, conservation, and forestry policies that will directly impact our community and it is vitally important that your feedback shapes this process. This bipartisan legislation would make the NMTC permanent, index the allocation to inflation in future years, and exempt NMTC investments from the Alternative Minimum Tax. Set to expire on December 31, 2025, the New Markets Tax Credit was established in the Community Renewal Tax Relief Act of 2000 (PL 106-554) and is an essential source of financing for businesses and community facilities in low-income and rural areas across the country. Since its inception, the NMTC has supported over a million jobs and invested billions into communities, including across New York's 24th District. A recent investment in Batavia, NY, will support the construction of the "Healthy Living Campus," a multimillion-dollar investment that will support the partnership between GLOW YMCA and United Memorial Medical Center. This project will create or retain nearly 400 quality jobs in the community. Now more than ever, it is essential that we work to create investments in our rural and low-income communities. Rural America is often forgotten by the Washington elites, which means that rural communities sometimes lack the necessary resources to invest, grow, and expand. Congress must make the New Markets Tax Credit permanent to allow our rural communities to continue accessing this important resource to create jobs and stimulate economic growth. President Trump’s Indictment: More Evidence of a Two-Tiered Criminal Justice System in America This week, we witnessed firsthand the politicized two-tiered system of justice we now have in America with a former president appearing in court. This unprecedented abuse of power is just the latest move by radical Democrats to weaponize the government against We The People. This trial will be District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s moment in the spotlight. But the American people see this malicious show trial and partisan persecution for exactly what it is. Every American should be concerned about this gross abuse of power. I once again call on Governor Kathy Hochul to act. She must uphold the rule of law and remove Alvin Bragg from office for, among other things, his failure to enforce the law and his blatant politicization of the criminal justice system. Watch more of my thoughts on this when Former Rep Lee Zeldin and I joined FOX News last Saturday here! Presented the Friend of the Farm Bureau Award Following our open-door roundtable discussion in Oswego, I was presented the New York Farm Bureau’s Friend of the Farm Bureau Award by Oswego Farm Bureau President Bruce Gibson. The award was presented in recognition of my longstanding and continued commitment to advocating for New York’s farmers. Thank you very much to the New York Farm Bureau for this great honor. Thank You to Farmers and Producers Across #NY24 As part of my Farm Bill Listening Tour, I not only heard from our area's farmers and agricultural producers, I was also able to tour many of their farms and businesses. I had the honor of visiting Sweet Dream Maple Farm in Corfu to learn more about the maple syrup-making process and meet its owners, Al and Amy Stein! As co-chair of the Maple Caucus in Congress, I will always be an advocate for our region's maple producers. I also had the opportunity to visit Boundary Breaks Winery in Lodi for a tour of their state-of-the-art facilities and a tasting of their delicious final product. And no farm tour would be complete without a stop at Dickman Farms in Auburn. Thank you to Dave, Peggy, and Bob for welcoming me to their fourth-generation family-owned business! Continuing to Advocate for the Delphi Salaried Retirees I hosted a town hall event in Lockport, New York, attended by more than 100 Delphi Salaried Retirees, who shared their personal stories of pain and suffering resulting from having their duly earned benefits unfairly slashed. The Delphi Salaried Retirees were egregiously wronged by the Obama administration through no fault of their own. New York families have suffered immensely because of the unfair decision made by Washington bureaucrats behind closed doors to slash their benefits. In Congress, I am continuing to advocate tirelessly on their behalf. Earlier this year, I joined with my colleagues to reintroduce the bipartisan Susan Muffley Act. It was an honor for me to once again meet with those impacted by this terrible decision to update them on my work in Congress to pass this legislation. I will not stop fighting until their earned benefits are fully restored.
