Ultimately, Passover is a story of liberation, of freedom from slavery, and resilience against oppression.
John,
Today kicks off a weekend of celebration, with millions of Americans recognizing the Passover, Ramadan, and Easter holidays this month.
My Jewish heritage is extremely important to me, and I’m excited to be celebrating Passover this weekend with my family – but you don’t have to be Jewish to find meaning in this holiday.
Ultimately, Passover is a story of liberation, of freedom from slavery, and resilience against oppression. My wife and I focus our family Passover celebration on freeing ourselves from ideas, values, and actions that don't serve us.
Are we pursuing money and status rather than how to make life better for those around us? Are our insecurities or our egos preventing us from fully connecting with our neighbors and our community? Are we examining ourselves honestly to root out any prejudice? Are we meeting the world with open hearts?
No matter what holidays you may or may not be celebrating, everyone can benefit from reflecting on these questions, and working to make our communities kinder, more welcoming, and more equitable places for all.
Wishing you peace this holiday season,
Becca Balint
