Friend — at the beginning of January, a major donor announced they would put up a $500,000 gift to run pro-environment campaigns in 2020. The catch: it only kicks in if
10,000 LCV members pitch in before the end of the month.
Well, we're a few hours to that deadline. We're still 231 donations short.
Deep breath — we have a shot at getting there. There's a bit of a loop-hole. In reaching that goal, small donations count the same as big ones. A single $5 donation could make the difference between funding some major environmental campaigns next year, or totally scaling back.
We can't come up short here — we just can't. In just the past few weeks, the Trump administration gutted clean water safeguards that have been in place since the 70s. They proposed undoing the requirement that federal agencies factor climate change into environmental impact studies. We've gotten word that they're about to shred cleaner cars standards.
The only way we can fight back is with your help. That means getting organizers on the ground in key states and flooding Congressional offices with calls and letters. It means pressuring car manufacturers to hold themselves to the higher standards. It means winning the 2020 elections.
Bottom line, all of that is a whole lot harder if we don't meet this goal.
Please, Friend — the best thing you can do to help right now is renew your membership for 2020. And it only costs $5. Renew your membership with LCV for $5 today »
Before midnight, if you make a donation of $35 or more, you'll get your choice of one of these awesome t-shirts to show your environmental pride:
Every donation — even if it's just $5 — counts towards the goal, so now is your chance to pitch in and help. If that's not enough, here are a few more reasons why meeting today's deadline is SO, SO, SO important.
- The Trump administration officially announced its proposal to gut the National Environmental Policy Act, so that agencies will no longer consider climate change when approving major projects like highways, pipelines, and other infrastructure proposals and can ignore public input. We're making an urgent push to block the new rule from taking effect, but we have to move quickly if we have any chance at all. You can help. Make a donation to the League of Conservation Voters today »
- Trump's administration is also pushing to sell access to the area around the Grand Canyon to allow uranium mining. The Grand Canyon has been home to Indigenous communities, including the Havasupai, Hualapai, Hopi, and Navajo Nation communities, for millennia. Congress is pushing to block the sale, but we need major grassroots pressure if we have any chance at succeeding. Please — renew your LCV membership today. Even $5 can make a huge difference »
- The Trump EPA is attempting to block the use of vast quantities of scientific data, which would virtually end meaningful implementation of significant parts of the Clean Air Act and many more bedrock environmental laws. We're organizing to stop this rule — and to let the EPA use the best science available — but we can't keep up the fight without your help. Friend — I want you to know just how much your support matters. Please, renew your LCV membership today.
- It's officially 2020, and with the election in full swing, we need the environmental movement to push — HARD. We're getting the candidates on the record to make sure they have serious plans to fight climate change, including their ideas to invest in communities that are hit hardest by its effects. No matter what, we need the next president to act on climate change. The only way that happens is if the environmental movement mobilizes in a major way. We need YOUR help now »
- Even after Trump pulled the United States from the Paris Climate Agreement, there's still a real shot at holding ourselves to the carbon-reduction commitments we made as a country. After aggressive grassroots campaigns, state and local governments are setting their own emissions limits. This is stuff that doesn't always make front page news — but it's huge, and it only happens when the environmental movement demands it. Friend — your donation keeps this work going. Renew your LCV membership today to support all our pro-environment campaigns — even $5 can make a huge difference.
Please don't sit out for these fights — too much is at stake.
Thanks for your support,
