In just the last year, two Yanomami children were killed by heavy machinery used for illegal mining, while two more drowned while fleeing attacks by illegal gold diggers.

Every minute, over three football fields of the Amazon rainforest, are being lost, and Indigenous land occupied by illegal mining has increased a staggering 495% over the past decade.

And as if illegal mining and deforestation aren’t bad enough, an investigation by the Federal Public Ministry of Brazil showed how the gold buying and selling sector is also linked to slave labour and money laundering.
