"If our opponents think we will stand by as they steamroll medical ethics and jeopardize patients' health and safety with their ideological extremism, they should think again. We will use every tool at our disposal until everyone can access the safe and essential reproductive health care they need." – Deirdre Schifeling, national political director of the ACLU |

ACLU Supporter – this is urgent: A federal judge in Texas just issued an unprecedented and baseless ruling blocking the approval of mifepristone. If it takes effect, the ruling – could upend abortion access nationwide. Mifepristone is a safe, effective medication used in more than half the abortions in this country and has been used for more than two decades by millions of people in the United States for both abortion and miscarriage care. The decision does not take effect for seven days, during which time the government is expected to appeal the ruling. Following the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, our reproductive freedoms have never been more at risk. If this decision takes effect, it has the potential to impact people's ability to access abortion and miscarriage care in all 50 states, DC, and U.S. territories; straining clinics and providers across the nation who are already grappling with the effects of Roe v. Wade being overturned and abortion banned in more than a dozen states.
The ACLU is fighting tooth and nail to protect access to abortion across our country – but anti-abortion extremists are working overtime to roll back our progress. It's clear that we need to fight back against this all-out assault on our rights, but we need to know ACLU supporters like you are with us. Read the full press release to learn more. |
