We’re officially one month away from our Five Year Bar Week of Action, which will be taking place May 1st - May 5th. Today we’re sharing upcoming opportunities to help prepare you to educate your representatives. If you haven’t already signed up to collaborate with us for these activities, please do so at the link below.
On Thursday, April 27th at 1pm ET, PIF staff and representatives from PIF member organizations will speak about our upcoming congressional Week of Action (May 1-5) and describe how participants could become involved in our advocacy push to remove the five year bar. We will discuss the problems caused by the five year bar and why it’s important that Congress take action to remove it. We will share details about the Lift the Bar Act, a piece of legislation soon to be introduced that would remove the five year bar and provide solutions to the problems it causes.
We’re delighted to share that Representatives Jayapal and Cárdenas will reintroduce the LIFT the BAR Act later this spring.
Last Congress, the LIFT the BAR Act had over 750 national, state and local organizations who endorsed the bill. But with the new Congress this year, we start back at the beginning and need to rebuild the broad, diverse list of supporting organizations.
Please take a minute to re-endorse the LIFT the BAR Act by filling out this short Google form. This will send your endorsement directly to Representative Jayapal’s office (PIF does not collect the information from this form).
Training:Vaccine Promotion in Immigrant Communities
Last week, we partnered with California’s Clinica Romero to host bilingual trainings for health promoters, outreach workers, and health educators focused on effective promotion of COVID and flu vaccines in immigrant communities. We had over 100 people join us and participate in great discussions on how to combat the most prevalent stigmas and miseducation around vaccines and their efficacy.
