Dear John,
Ten months after the Supreme Court overturned Roe and took away the constitutionally protected right to abortion, the landscape of abortion access has changed again. This time, an extremist judge in Texas has issued a ruling attempting to force the FDA to revoke approval of mifepristone, one of two drugs used for medication abortion care, which could effectively eliminate the most common form of abortion care in this country. The attacks on abortion are relentless—and conservatives won’t stop until they criminalize abortion from every angle.
But of course, we’re not backing down. The National Women’s Law Center saw this coming and launched the Abortion Defense Network (ADN), along with five other leading reproductive rights organizations, to serve as a legal resource for abortion providers and supporters. As anti-abortion extremists sow fear and create uncertainty, the ADN will be there to help providers and supporters with legal concerns, including advice, representation, and connections to funding.
And NWLC is not stopping there. In the next few months, we’ll be launching the Abortion Access Legal Defense Fund, which will provide financial support—including covering attorneys’ fees and other legal expenses—to patients as well as individuals and organizations that have helped people get abortions.
Will you help us defend those who need or support abortion access by donating to the Abortion Access Legal Defense Fund? Any amount you can chip in will help establish the fund at this critically important moment.
NWLC is countering extremist attacks on abortion on all fronts. One avenue is launching the Abortion Defense Network and the Abortion Access Legal Defense Fund, but we’re also advocating in Congress, filing lawsuits and supporting briefs, and supporting community partners on the ground. With your support, we can push back to defend abortion access. Join us by making a restricted donation to help grow the Abortion Access Legal Defense Fund.
We’re in this fight together.
Sincerely,
Noel León

Director of the Abortion Access Legal Defense Fund
P.S. If you have any questions on the case that could force mifepristone off the market, check out our blog, press release, and social media posts.
